Woman Hit by Car in Parking Lot Dies
The 92-year-old woman badly injured Friday at Whiteman Plaza died early Saturday morning at the hospital
A Fort Lee woman who was struck Friday by a car that was backing up in the parking lot at Whiteman Plaza has died from her injuries, authorities said.
Ja Sung Roh, 92, of Fort Lee, died at Hackensack University Medical Center at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.
The Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified, according to police.
Capt. Keith Bendul of the Fort Lee Police Department told Patch the investigation into the accident continues, but that “at this point, there’s no indication of any violation of criminal law.”
“The driver is cooperating and naturally, obviously upset,” Bendul said of 42-year-old Michael Arabia, of Hawthorne, who was ticketed for careless driving.
Less than 12 hours after that accident, another pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, suffering “non-life threatening” injuries. The pedestrian was charged with failure to use a crosswalk, police said.
At about 11:45 p.m. Friday, a 63-year-old Cliffside Park man driving a 2011 Ford Edge was making a left turn at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Anderson Avenue when he collided with Kanae Sueishi, 47, of Fort Lee, police said.
Sueishi was treated at the scene by Cliffside Park Ambulance and taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, who cooperated with the on-scene investigation, was not charged, police said.
“The conditions, obviously, were that it was very late at night, and the driver’s turning,” Bendul told Patch. “He didn’t observe [Sueishi], and she wasn’t in the crosswalk.”
Both accidents Friday occurred as the Fort Lee Police Department continues to stress pedestrian safety with increased enforcement of jaywalking and failure to yield to pedestrian laws.

I like how the police charged the pedestrian. nice. So drivers are now ALWAYS in the right? As long as a pedestrian is not in a crosswalk a driver can get away with anything? A F BS.
