Winter’s End, Dances, Movies and Celebrations

About Town highlights the Fort Lee Library, programs at the recreation center and School 4's 100th Anniversary Dinner/Dance

It’s almost impossible to believe that only one month ago we were bemoaning the never-ending succession of snowstorms; yet, here we are less than one week away from the official start of spring! The tulips are pushing their way up from the earth and we’ve pushed the clocks ahead—the wait is almost over.

This final week of winter has a lot in store for us so charge your P.D.A.’s and mark your calendars!

Friends of the Fort Lee Library Meeting and Free Movie

There will be a meeting of the Friends of the Fort Lee Library on Wednesday for anyone who would like to work as a volunteer at the Mary Meehan Concert Series that will be held on the first Sundays of April, May and June. The meeting will be at 3:15 p.m. in the upstairs conference room of the library.

Mary Meehan was a resident of Fort Lee for over 90 years. She always had a special place in her heart for the Fort Lee Library. Never forgetting the importance of the library in her life, upon her death in 2000, Mary bequeathed her entire estate to the Fort Lee Public Library. The Adult Reading Room in the new wing is dedicated to Mary Meehan, and her endowment was used toward the purchase of new books, furniture and a new Kawai grand piano that replaced the 85 year-old Steinway that had been donated by lifelong resident Arthur Imperatore in the 1970s.

On Thursday the library will host a free screening of Vincente Minnelli’s 1965 movie, The Sandpiper starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Eva Marie Saint and Charles Bronson at 2 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room.

The Fort Lee Library is located at 320 Main Street.
