Weichert Realtors Face Economy With Optimism
The manager of the Fort Lee branch of the 43-year-old, family-run real estate agency discusses the state of the industry and doing business in the borough.
The Fort Lee office of Weichert Realtors provides assistance and information in all facets of real estate. The sales associates are fluent in 26 languages, enabling them to communicate effectively and efficiently with all members of the local community.
The office’s associates also have special expertise in co-ops, condos, single-family homes, rentals, businesses, stores, multi-family homes, industrial, new construction and land sales.
Nancy Zaslowe, a borough resident since 2005 and branch office manager in the Fort Lee office since 1995, started at Weichert’s Glen Rock office as a sales associate in 1985 and was promoted to manager in 1993. She has been in the real estate business for 25 years.
The time spent in the industry has afforded Zaslowe the luxury of being able to say, "I have consistently grown my office to be a top producing office in our borough and within Weichert."
"The lessons I continue to learn as I assist my agents in growing their business and helping clients achieve their dreams reinforces my conviction, resolve and enthusiasm,” she said.
Since real estate is a primary funding source for the borough, Zaslowe pointed out that the ability of the business to impact transactions and home values is a strong contributor to the viability and vitality of Fort Lee.
While the overall economy and macro trends in the real estate market have made the past few years challenging, Zaslowe said, "We continue to see significant improvement in the velocity of transactions as we work our way through the issues."
"We expect 2012 to be an excellent year for real estate sales," she added.
Feeling inspired by her own prediction, Zaslowe believes the real estate business is great.
"It provides unlimited earning potential for our agents and me," she said. "I find it gratifying to be involved in assisting people to achieve the American dream of home ownership. It encourages me when I see the market continuing to grow and prosper. The sales associates are also finding the market is improving, with many contracts ready to close in a day."
Zaslowe commented on how doing business in such a diverse community provides stability in the real estate market as various groups grow and pick up the slack when others contract.
“This also provides opportunities for growth," she said. "This is why we have built our office with agents who mirror this diversity of our area.”
Real estate can be a 24-hour job, thereby becoming part of an agent’s lifestyle. But Zaslowe is upbeat in her view of the not-so-glamorous aspects of the job.
“My agents had a very good 2011 because they care about their clients and are available whenever needed," she said. "While it is necessary to balance family and personal time, the rewards of helping people achieve their dream provides significant satisfaction.”
However, the market being what it is, there still aren’t enough sales associates to handle the number of leads the business continues to receive. Being in love with the business you’re in, having the right sales people and taking one day at a time are critical, Zaslowe says.
Starting with one office in Chatham, N.J. in 1969, Weichert Realtors, a family-run business, has been around for 43 years and is one of the nation’s leading providers of real estate services.
Weichert is in the business of meeting people who want to move to Bergen, Hudson or Passaic Counties. Multi-listing in real estate enables the representatives to work together as was well as independently, and all commission is shared.
Elaine Mosera is a sales associate and the Fort Lee office’s community outreach coordinator.
"What we do in the community as far as community outreach is hold two blood drives with one coming out in late spring," Mosera said. "We hold a coat drive in the fall and a toy drive annually."
For the blood drive, scheduled for Monday, May 14, Mosera said, “We need to have 20 pre-registered donors to donate blood in order for the blood mobile to come."
