School Board President Arthur Levine Announces Resignation
Member of the Board of Education since 2007, Levine announces his resignation.
School Board President Arthur Levine announced his resignation from the board of education today.
"I will always be grateful to the people I served with," Levine told Patch. "We achieved many positive things for the children of Fort Lee."
Levine, who has served on the Board since 2007 and was elected president in 2011, said that he was resigning from the board due to time constraints.
"Serving on the board requires a large commitment of time," Levine said. "Being very committed to my work on the board, knowing I can no longer give that time completely, I have chosen to step down."
During his tenure on the board, Levine was a strong proponent in lobbying the community for the passage of a bond referendum allowing for expansion to relieve severe overcrowding in Fort Lee schools.
After two failed attempts, the board significantly scaled back from the previous two and focused the third bond referendum on absolute necessary repairs. That bond referendum for $30.2 million was approved by voters in January.
While serving as president, Levine has seen the district achieve its highest ranking and has dealt with the resignation of Superintendent Raymond Bandlow in September 2011 and the subsequent appointment of Steven Engravalle as Superintendent in June.
"It was a pleasure and a priveledge to serve the community, but now it's time for other people to come in and serve," Levine said. "I'll have fond memories of serving on the board."
Levine said that the business of the schools will continue, adding, "There are great things on the horizon for Fort Lee schools."

I wonder the real reason why he resigned.

Whatever Mr. Levine's reasons for leaving, he has contributed to the community with his time and effort. A continuous stream of disparaging and inane remarks from an anonymous blogger, sniping from the shadows is your contribution to our community and probably is the most you have ever contributed to anything.

Maybe the commute from Connecticut and Manhattan was too time-consuming. I've contributed much more than you Howard.

Art, thank you for your time and dedication to the board over the past several years. Quint, according to NJ law the position is filled by a nomination of the board of education and a majority vote. The person sits until the next election, in this case November.
