State Senator Says Red Light Cameras Should be Banned

Speaking at the United Republican Club of Fort Lee’s Monthly meeting Tuesday, State Sen. Michael Doherty (R-23) discussed legislation he introduced “to outright ban” red light cameras in New Jersey.

Doherty Criticizes Fort Lee Mayor For Red Light Camera Comments

Doherty two days after speaking at the meeting about his legislation to ban red light cameras in New Jersey released a statement blasting Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for comments he made in an article published on NorthJersey.com saying he wants to install red light cameras in the borough “for money reasons.”

Area 5 East Parcel Groundbreaking Expected October 1, Officials Say

With only one hurdle left to clear—a closing, which Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich said he expects to happen within the next 10 days—the developer of the eastern half of the long-vacant, roughly 16-acre property now known as Redevelopment Area 5 should be ready to break ground on Oct. 1, borough officials said Thursday. Groundbreaking on the western half may take a little longer, according to Sokolich.

Fort Lee High School Still Among State’s Top 100, Drops in Rankings

Fort Lee High School once again ranked among the state’s top 100 high schools, according to New Jersey Monthly’s biennial report, but the local school dropped from 72 in 2010 to 97, according to a formula based on state Department of Education (DOE) data for the 2010-2011 school year.
