POLL: How Long Were You Without Power; Is It Back On?
500 or fewer Fort Lee residents were still without power Wednesday morning, according to PSE&G; one says Cedar Court residents may account for a big chunk of that number
As of Wednesday morning, PSE&G was reporting that it had restored service to about 91 percent of customers impacted by the weekend’s unexpectedly early snowstorm. The utility also said that some 50,000 customers remained in the dark, and a quick look at the company’s power outage map reveals that up to 500 customers may still be without power in Fort Lee as of Wednesday morning.
A resident of the Cedar Court condo complex in Fort Lee, who wished to remain anonymous, said a tree (pictured) that fell during the storm on Saturday, hit the power line and caused a power outage in the entire complex had not been removed as of Wednesday morning. The resident went on to say that while service had been restored to portions of the complex, many residents were still without power.
“Zero progress has been made, and I am beginning to think that we still won't have power tonight since the tree isn't even cleared,” the resident said in an email. “The PSE&G outage map shows that there are less than 500 residences without power in Fort Lee. The people without power at Cedar Court probably make up a chunk of that number.”
The Cedar Court resident received the following email reply Wednesday from a PSE&G representative in response to repeated inquiries:
“We truly understand your dilemma, but you will have to contact our Customer Service Department at 1800 436-7734 and give them your location.”
The concerned Fort Lee resident said that aside from the potential hazards of a downed tree and potentially live wires in an area where people park their cars and children play, and the fact that many residents of the complex still didn’t have power, a “lack of clear communication” was perhaps the worst part of the situation.
“Neighbors have heard inconsistent stories of power restored at various points of the week. Calls to PSE&G produced a horrifying automated response that the power will be restored on December 2,” the Cedar Court resident said.
