Sherman, a hound/terrier mix, cannot get enough of human affection. Once he realized the benefits of socializing, he is unable to resist introducing himself to strangers. Although this is a fantastic quality, the shelter staff wants to make sure it doesn't escalate into needy behaviors. Adopters will have to be able to correct this and only reward him when he's calm and quiet. Because he came in as a stray, the staff is not able to determine his past lifestyle, but are extra happy to know he loves to surround himself with people. Basic obedience along with physical and mental exercise are great ways to help with bonding and shedding some excess weight. With a balanced lifestyle and a stable routine, Sherman will undoubtedly transform into a more confident and calm companion. Sherman is very easy to walk and has become a volunteer favorite. Cookie, a 12-year old cocker spaniel, arrived at the shelter in his old age because one of his family members became allergic. The shelter seeks the best home possible for him, so he can live out his golden years in peace and tranquility. For an oldie but goodie, he still has a lot of energy and life left in him. Although he may be independent at times, he quite enjoys the affection his human friends have to offer. Given his surprising energy for a golden oldie, walks around the neighborhood and short visits to the park would be ideal for this handsome fella
Bella, a one year old tabby cat, is lively, active and playful. She loves to be held and cuddled and is sweet and curious. Bella has lived with both cats and dogs before. Bella will be spayed before leaving the shelter.
Sheba, shepherd mix, came to the shelter as a stray and is still coping with this new environment. Although she is very curious of her surroundings, she is aware of her human friends and does enjoy some affection on her own terms. This 7 year old is more on the independent side but she is all for attention if she is given it. Even though the shelter staff smothers her with kisses and pets, she does not like to be restrained or handled, especially with her back feet. Once she's warmed up a bit, she reacts better with minimal handling but the shelter does not encourage her new family to force the handling issue. Homes with children are not recommended.
Squirt is a very friendly cat about 5-years-old. He came to the shelter with another cat when his owner went to a nursing home. He has lived with both cats and dogs before. Squirt is up to date with shots and has tested negative for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia.
