Jack Reilly Boy’s Basketball Tournament Postponed
The tournament will now start on Tuesday, continue on Thursday and conclude on the following Sunday due to snow storm.
The Jack Reilly Tournament was postponed Sunday.
Fort Lee Athletic Director Pat Ambrosio made the decision early on Sunday morning after watching the radar, consulting with colleagues and thinking of everyone's safety.
"Ultimately, the decision needs to made about the safety of everyone first," Ambrosio said. "It made no sense to force the issue when you have a holiday week."
The athletic director also said that it became "like a game" trying to see if the school would be able to get the games in and beat the impending blizzard.
"We got in up this morning, and the forecast was pretty certain to hit around noontime, when our games were going to happen," Ambrosio continued. "The last thing we wanted was to get one game in, have half the teams on the road on their way up, then have to cancel and send them back."
So now the Jack Reilly Tournament is delayed to Tuesday, with the opening tip off between Wayne Hills and Snyder at 2 p.m. Following that game, Old Tappan and Montclair meet up in the 3:45 game, St. Mary's challenges Mahwah at 5:30 and Fort Lee hosts Orange High School in the final contest of the night at 7 p.m.
The tournament continues on Thursday with all games scheduled for the same times. The first contest will feature the loser of Wayne Hills-Snyder and Old Tappan-Montclair facing off against each other while the second game holds a matchup between the losers of St. Mary's-Mahwah and Orange-Fort Lee.
Then at night, the winners of Wayne Hills-Snyder and Old-Tappan-Montclair meet at 5:30 while the St. Mary's-Mahwah and Orange-Fort Lee winners tip at 7:00.
The Jack Reilly boys' basketball tournament will conclude on Sunday with a trio of games including the championship contest at 3:30 p.m.
Remember to check back throughout the week if there are any changes to the scheduling for the holiday tournament.
