Fort Lee Principal to Resign, Education Funding Public Hearing at FLHS
The Fort Lee BOE will vote Monday on whether to accept Lewis F. Cole Middle School principal Robert Kravitz’s resignation after he was appointed Superintendent for the Englewood Cliffs School District last week, highlighting the week ahead.
The Fort Lee Board of Education meets Monday evening for the first time since president Arthur Levine announced his resignation from the board last week.
Levine, who served on the school board since 2007 and as president since 2011, said has said he is stepping down because of time constraints.
“Serving on the board requires a large commitment of time,” Levine said in making the announcement last week. “Being very committed to my work on the board, knowing I can no longer give that time completely, I have chosen to step down.”
Among the items on the school board’s agenda for Monday's meeting, which starts at 8 p.m. and takes place in the Fort Lee High School library, is one accepting the resignation of Robert Kravitz of Lewis F. Cole Middle School effective Oct. 5.
The former principal of Fort Lee School No. 3 was a part of the BOE’s shuffling of principals in the district in early July, or what school officials called an “administrative restructuring.”
Under the plan, Kravitz moved from School 3 to the middle school, joining Rosemary Giacomelli, who moved from the middle school to Fort Lee School No. 1, and Jay Berman, who moved from the Fort Lee Early Childhood Center (FLECC) to School 3, as principals changing schools for the 2012-2013 school year.
In the intervening time, however, Kravitz was appointed Superintendent and Director of Special Services for the Englewood Cliffs School District on Aug. 6—an appointment that runs until July 1, 2016.

Also this week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s Education Funding Task Force will hold a public hearing Wednesday afternoon at Fort Lee High School “to solicit input for its review of certain areas of the state’s school funding formula,” according to officials.
The public is encouraged to attend the hearing, which starts at 3 p.m. and also takes place in the library, and bring printed copies of their remarks to the hearing.
The March 2012 executive order establishing the task force can be found here.
Patch will provide more information about the public hearing prior to Wednesday’s event at the high school.

Why is this simply a footnote on this article?
