UPDATE: Authorities Investigating Fort Lee Pedestrian Accident

Fort Lee woman struck while crossing pedestrian crosswalk at intersection of Route 5 and Anderson Ave.

Authorities are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Route 5 and Anderson Avenue, Friday night. 

Carrie Wong, 30, of Fort Lee, was struck by a 2009 black Chevy SUV driven by 64-year old Charles Hays of Edgewater Friday, according to Fort Lee police. 

Hong was crossing the pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Route 5 and Anderson Avenue when she was struck by the front of Hays' SUV, causing her to be thrown to the ground, police reported.

Police said that Wong was transported by the Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Hackensack University Medical Center where she was being treated for trauma as a result of the accident. 

Police have charged Hays with assault by auto DWI, reckless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to produce an insurance card.

Traffic was closed along the east and west lanes of Route 5 for approximately three hours. Investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit were at the scene. 

Police report that the accident is being investigated by the Fort Lee Police Traffic Bureau Accident Investigation Unit.
